I need help with knowing what to do on SSP when SMP ends HELP!

I am on SMP
My son sadly passed away in October, I need to go back to work in Feb due to my SMP ending. I do not feel ready for this at all.
My husband is on JSA at the moment due to being laid off in July, he might have a part time job soon of 16 hours and around £99 a week
We get some tax credits at the moment and I have applied for Housing and council benefit but we are awaiting this.
I am not sure I can cope with work and my doctor has said he will sign me off but our rent is £700 a month and our tax credit is £115 on my husband's wages and my SSP if I did this we could not even afford the rent
Does anyone know how this works?
Can I claim anything else on SSP? will the housing benefit and council tax be based on me working or SSP? and the Tax credits?
I am told we have to be given enough money to live but is this true?
I have never claimed anything before besides the child benefits and tax credits so I am not sure how this works
Sorry if this is in the wrong section I was unsure where to post
Thank you

Hi, I am sorry you are having such a hard time at the moment.
You can go onto SSP when your SMP ends.
As I understand it from your post your income would then be JSA (husband) SSP (you) tax credits and housing benefit and council tax benefit. The HB/CTB will be based on actual income received - so SSP/JSA etc not work.
You may want to put your details into the benefit calculator at www.turn2us.org.uk0 -
Does your company have a company sick pay scheme or is it just statutary.
Are you hoping to go back eventually, February is still over a month away and you may feel a bit better by then, in fact you may find that work is a distraction and gives you something else to focus on, and the longer you leave it the harder it will be.
Have you thought of asking for a phased return to ease yourself back in slowly.0 -
I'm in agreement with a phased or part-time return to work. You may find it helps you to have something to concentrate on.
Can you speak to HR at your workplace?
I am sorry for your loss

My boss will not allow phased return or part time, I do not have a HR department, my nursery is a one off
We still have a lot of problems and things to deal with, with the hospital over the next few months and I worry it is too much
I guess I just needed to know what would happen to some extent
Just SMP
My husband now as a job of 16 hours, for around £99 a week so just more then the JSA
So are income is based on his wages and my SMP if I were to be signed off?
Would that work for tax credits also?
We do not have HB or Council tax help yet, I have handed the forms in but we are still awaiting a response
Do I just call all the places when I get signed off?
Thank you0
