Wedding recommendations!

I can wholeheartedly reccommend the M&S wedding cakes. we had them for our wedding in 2005. A friend made the decoration for the cake and we hired a cake stand in Bangor - the shop in Abbey St. We ordered the three largest cakes for 180 people and had the third tier left over. Everyone without exception commented on the flavour and taste of the cake. All were surprised that it was from M&S.
They have a special offer on at the moment. Go for it!:T0 -
My mum made mine and it was decorated by a lady who lives in the same village as hers! Absolutely wonderful it was too... although this may not be an option if you have a large number of guests... !

I've just about booked everything for a wedding in Wales in September and my biggest savings are...
- My new dress cost £120 from Ebay,(asapbay_001@yahoo.com.tw) I had a made-to-measure copy of a £1500 dress made and I like it more than the original! It did need tweaking, but only a little bit which was done by my Grandma and only took a couple of hours.
- My mum is making the cake, my parents are doing a buffet and we've asked family members to bring a dessert each for the buffet.
- Bridesmaid dresses were from Coast, reduced from £125 to £30 each. Their shoes were £20 a pair from an Ebay shop.
- I made the invitations using some card making kits from The Works and some stamp cutters and ribbon that I bought off ebay.
- Photographers (I've booked 2!) I found them both on Gumtree. One is a fully qualified professional who just needs to build up a wedding portfolio who we're paying £200. The other used to be a wedding photographer abroad but is getting an English photography qualification and needs a wedding for her coursework portfolio and she's free. They are more than happy to work together, and are both providing a full album and all the digital prints.
We're also putting disposable cameras on all the tables.
Hope these are useful to somone :-)
Whatever you're doing have a fantastic time!0 -
Firstly Congratulations!
And secondly what I'd say is to remember this is about marking the day you publicly commit to spending the rest of your life together - and not about having absolutely every formalised trapping of a 'traditional' wedding i.e. spending loads of money.
Myself and my husband were married almost 6 years ago:eek: and the best advice i can give is to sit down and think hard about all your friends and family and all their potential talents. We had friends doing the music (at the church and afterward) friend made the cake, family made the dresses; friends did make-up and hair, friend did the photos etc. etc..
Not only does it make the day affordable it makes it a great deal more relaxed and enjoyable (we have friends who still remark on how much they enjoyed our wedding because it was so laid-back)
Above all, when you finally get to the day just remember to relax - and if anything doesn't quite go to plan, let it go and enjoy your day anyway.0 -
I got married in sept 2005 and we did our best to cut down on the costs though it was still over £6000. We used a photographer who takes motorsport photos and she was great for only her second ever wedding and as her sister takes videos we got a great deal on the 2 together.
We used a car hire that had a one off charge for 2 cars (4 bridemaids and 4 groomsmen) - some companies charge by the mile we found out.
The Ballymac near Dundrod was £15/head for the great meal with the function room free and free toasting wine, free bridal suite and good rate for overnight guests.
The entire table decorations were simply baloons with nice weights and no favours (and no-one cared) and they cost £90 delivered and set-up from Dunluce balloons.
My mum did the cake and the hotel loaned us the cake stand free.
Invitations etc were bought on-line and written by a friend doing a calligraphy course.
We had a single DJ (no band/party games) and with mostly younger people and not many of the older relatives you never see, the dancefloor was packed all night.
Most people commented it was one of the best do's they'd been to as it was simple with good food
Lots of the little things people don't remember like favours or fancy invites are a waste and only your old aunt keeps them:D
I've now videoed one wedding for a family member and photographed another when people wanted to cut down on costs and it usually comes out ok.
