Hi
I got married in Belfast and had my reception at the Park Avenue Hotel. The price was very reasonable compared to other venues.
I got my wedding dress in the sales. Keep an eye on all the wedding shops as you have lots of time to find bargins. I would pop in every month or so. I did get my wedding veil online brand new on e-bay for a fraction of the price and sold it on.
I brought my bridesmaid dresses in a charity shop and had a seamstress friend re-work them so they cost about £50 in total including gold organza for wraps.
I made my own invites, order of service etc with inspiration from craft world in belfast.
My flowers were done my husbands mother and aunt. They did lots of flower arranging classes leading up to the wedding. We didnt have loads of flowers, bouquets for bride and bridesmaid, button hole for groom and best man.
Get a friend with a nice car to drive you if you can as that saves loads too.0 -
I would recommend vistaprint too online. We are getting married next year in august, so we don't want people booking holidays, so we are sending out a save the date card this august.
Got 100 postcards with a lovely black and white wedding design on the front and just had to pay postage which was £3.24, so great bargain.
i have also been looking at the houseofbrides website in america and i think i will at least be buying the bridesmaid outfits from them. One of the designers, Alfread ........(something) has shops all across ireland with his ranges in. get your bridesmaids to go in, try them on and then order them from america.
I wouldn't worry too much, we have only booked the cermony and the reception venues. Just looking at photographers and cars at the moment.0 -
We've just got married on a budget, we made the invitations, orders of service and will do the thank you cards ourselves from stuff bought from the paper mill place in junction 1. Total cost was about £30.
Her wedding dress was new but only about £500 from a bridal salon, they showed her the expensive stuff first but luckily the cheaper one was more her taste.
Suits were hired from Youngs at junction 1 £49 each and 5 for the price of 4. Only one car used and supplied by Value cabs (lovely big Merc E-Class) and a bit cheaper than the wedding car specialists.
Flowers supplied by DKNI who asked what she wanted and how much she wanted to pay and did an amazing job for next to nothing. One place wanted £15 just to have a chat about flowers and refused to give any info/estimates without payment.
Reception was at the Coast Road Hotel in Carrick, £17 a head for a fantastic meal, staff couldn't have done enough for us only thing that lets it down is the bedrooms need redecorated. They also supply the table flowers and one of the florists they use is DKNI so were able to coordinate the flowers on the tables with everything else at no charge.
We didn't bother with a video as her brother brought his cam corder but got a photographer for £500, he's an ex professional that does it as a hobby. We haven't seen the pics yet so can't comment on value for money yet.0 -
hi everyone, im trying to organise my wedding for may 2008, i want a bbq or hog roast so im looking for a venue where i will be free to do my own catering or bring in outside caterers of my choice. I would love somewhere rustic like a barn, old hall or stone building, that will fit 100 people or more, any suggestions?
Ps I'm located in county armagh, so preferably somewhere within an hours drive.
Thanks0 -
I thoroughly enjoyed my wedding day - because we did exactly what WE wanted to do. I had benn to weddings where the bride and groom appeared to be on someone else's schedule for most of the day, and the thing I hated most of all was the photographers' arrogance.
I refused to have a professional photographer at our wedding. Instead, we gave rolls of 35mm film to friends who enjoyed taking pictures. We still did a little bit of posing, but it was fun and relaxed.
We have a wedding album of nearly 300 pictures, along with enlarged photos, black and whites and a few special ones framed. I have never felt that I missed out on having the whole professional album, and the pitcures are natural, relaxed and ful of smiles.
Good luck with your plans.

Are you anywhere near Lurgan? I think you can hire the dam at Aghagallon and bring your own caterers, food etc. It has barns, a pond and is very pretty. Someone had a wedding reception there last summer and Deans from Belfast did the catering in a marquee.0 -

Dad and Uncle doing photography, dress from TK Maxx (I want something I can wear again). Meal for afters at a local restaurant (there's only 18 of us!) No flowers or buttonholes. Organised in 2 weeks, 08.08.07 I'm ready
Fair play to you A B:T
Wish my wife had of had the same attitude, great money saving :T
We only had a small wedding 50 main meal, 350 evening reception:eek: and tried to cut back on most things but the expense involved in weddings these day is immense.
The evening reception acyually worked out cheaper than expected because the hotel was so impressed with the amount of people (and drink consumption) that they gave me a big discount on that when it came to paying the final bill, so fair play to them.
Cut back on Cars, don't have 6 bridesmaids and matching blokes etc.... get your uncle bob to do the video, but spend a few quid on photos as they are something you will always have.
If you need a photographer in the North West or beyond you will not do better than this one https://www.stephenlatimer.com and no its not me:rotfl:
Most of all don't go putting yourself into debt to fund a massive wedding that everyone will forget about anyway because they got so drunk on your free wine and drinks reception;)
If I had it to do over again, carribean beach wedding and honeymoon combined;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Hi ya,
I got married in dec last year and done it all with 3wks notice!! Even then my head was turned!
I got my wedding dress of an ebay shop so it was brand new, my little girl was my only bridesmaid / flower girl (she's only two) Her dress and shrug was out of BHS, I was lucky with the photographer as he was a friend of a friend! Although someone suggested checking with your local university / college for photography students - u get your photos and they get a free portfolio! Also at night, get a pile of disposable cameras (but be sure they have a flash!) and leave them on the tables then collect at end of the night. Snapfish.co.uk are cheap for getting pics developed! Invitations were made by me, buy expensive paper from easons and get creative - people liked the 'personal' touch! As for the meal, instead of a hotel, we went to a local golf club! Lovely views, lovely staff, gorgeous meals all freshly made And a fraction of the price!
Hope some of this helps and good luck!
