Best place to advertise used car?

I know this might be counter-intuitive but where do you think I should advertise my brother's 4-year old Volvo V40 to get a reasonable deal?

He bought a new car and the dealer was offering peanuts part-exchange so I thought I'd sell it for him but wanted to get the best deal for him. He lives near Woking/Guildford, Surrey.

I suggested Autotrader and the local newspaper but thought I'd check if you folks had any better ideas...obviously no ebay!;)

Thanks, tali! Do you think people will travel from Harrogate down to Surrey or do you think dealers may buy it?

If and when I am looking at buying or selling a car I ways use auto trader and then any local free ads type papers as additional.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk also used http://uk.freeads.net/ but not for car selling.

difficult to say - but people will travel for the right car
eg friend of mine travelled 200miles offered a very good price to vendor who stubbornly refused to negotiate- friend didn't buy car...... but following day again made same 400 mile round trip to buy the car off the unhelpful vendor!

The places where I always recommend are:

    - Loot (its free to do)
    - Autotrader (is quite expensive)
    - Exchange & Mart
    - Local Newspaper Classified Section
    - Sign on the Window - you can't beat this old form of selling, however if it is parked on a public road then you are not allowed to put this notice up and the car is likely to be towed by the council. However if its on a private drive way, then by all means put a For Sale sign in the window.

    I'd forgotten about Loot!

Thanks, I'll try a couple of other sites you folks have mentioned.

Might also put a For Sale sign up when the car is in the drive...

    Thanks again folks.
