  • I absolutely detest the sales, particularly this year as they 'started' far too early. It takes something away from christmas, as i remember it as a child (not too long ago haha)

I'm usually working, but bring on nights this year and struggling with insomnia, I went online. I don't let myself deviate from a few sale rules.

    1) Not paying for postage. Either a free code/the amount of cashback needs to cover the postage cost if there is one. Otherwise the item needs to be an 'omg I've been wanting to buy that for a year!' kind of item.

    2) Can't be a christmas themed item. Next year I probably wont want light up miniature reindeers for the table, or I might want to rebel against the traditional tree and have no baubles on it.

    3) Research. One of the many benefits of shopping at 3am = the lack of uk internet traffic/shoppers with a sharp mind who are going to buy the whole site before you have clicked through to checkout.

So, Im excited with what I have bought this year, mainly because I know its what other people would like me to buy them but my budget wont allow.

I got an urban outfitters jumper for myself.... (wanted all through the winter but never had a small) £45 to £19.80 with extra 10% off code.

Tesco duvet £35 to £17 (mine has holes in! and im constantly cold)

Molton brown goodies - biggest splurge £53 for that I got presents for 4 friends and my mum. I usually spend £15-20 on each.

Laura Mercier via Space NK. Makeup - sister and another friend £12.50 + delivery code.

L'occitaine. My mums mothers day present I know she has wanted for ages! £20 from £56 (although I very much doubt that was ever the start price). = extra 10% off sale items = £18 (plus 2 free samples for me).

I just have to keep my hands away from sampling other peoples presents :)

All the fake 'sales' offers such as mentioned above are highly irrating & I avoid the shops with these practices as much as possible, makes me feel like they're trying to rip me off & suspicious of what the genuine price should be. Woolworths was one of the biggest culprits for this & look what happened to them!
Debenhams do this as well. Their Tripp luggage is ALWAYS on sale. Or so it seems anyway.

I used to really enjoy sales, but I'm much more cynical these days. :naughty:

Have not come across one sale yet where I have wanted to buy anything, don't want it and don't need it so no falling in to the Sale Sale Sale hype.

Yep, I feel exactly the same. I have looked at every sale, and the only things I have bought are cards, wrap and crackers to put away for next year, from M&S and Cancer research.
Hopefully this means my wage will last the next 6 weeks til pay day this year :D
  • Most disappointing "sales" I can remember.

Many of the items I was hoping to pick up such as clothing, shoes and trainers have hardly been discounted at all compared to what you have been able to pick them up for on the run up to Christmas!

In fact some items I have seen, particularly at Very, are dearer now in their "sale" than they were during November and early December!

adidas, for the first time I can remember, have only discounted most items by 30% rather than 50%

Very disappointing overall, best bargains have been the usual half price Christmas cards and wrapping paper everywhere as usual!!

As usual the media hype up the sales claiming so many billions of pounds is being spent around the country but when I went to my town centre it was no busier than a normal weekday. Despite this the local paper had pictures of shoppers with bags and bags of shopping and reports about queues forming left right and centre. It's not true.
Also for the last decade or so, all these retailers have been employing freshly graduated spotty marketers to pull off the old Tesco trick of raising prices before discounting them. No wonder they are all going bust. For this deceit alone, the high street deserves to go bust.

ratings to Next. i have zero interest in them nowadays but I tend to 'pop in' to their sale after the main day hype and i ALWAYS come out with something. I never have to browse or rummage, it's always just 'there.

went yesterday and found a pair of SIZE 9 LADIES SHOES!!!! oh and a jacket, then popped in today while I waited for lush to open and found three blouses, paid and was out the door in all of five minutes, while the ladies queue was 20 deep.

i found it HILARIOUS they already slashing prices though... its only been two days.

    LOOOOOOOOL!

Disappointed I missed out on the Marc Jacobs eau de fresh gift set. Sadly I did not check my computer till Xmas evening as was having family time. Upset I went on perfumeshop got one in my basket them it went. Am none in the store Boxing Day however I did not get my hopes up so was not too dissapointed. Also I did get Marc Jacobs dot perfume gift set on 23rd December so am happy bout that . Went to sales Kingston on Boxing Day picked up pair wedges I wanted in river island half price . And got few little bits from acessorize. My mum got lots bargains m&s 50% off . Stuff shed been after. Did not really got to rummage new what I wanted and only got that stuff really. Thought loads had gone. Only very large sizes left in a lot of shops.

also glad I got my onesies b4 Xmas as wow they had all gone in next river island etc .

Did buy a few bits online. Like others looked for free delv codes. Tcb offers etc. got couple cardis from warehouse sale on Boxing Day online. Got free delv and 15% off and tcb on those so very pleased.

Got some new uggs in rum raisen colour from mandm direct. A bargain. Wanted chestnut again as my dog made a hole in mine but did not want to pay over £100 so sure these will be nice.

That's about it really. Spent all my Xmas money and pleased at what I got. Don't think I wasted my money this year and saved quite a bit too xx

  • I'm a little disappointed in the sales. 50% off doesn't feel like a bargain to me! So far i've done a little online shopping at Next, Asda, Bravissimo and dotcomgiftshop. Waiting for the 70% sales to kick in before i walk into an actual shop and stock up for the rest of the year!
November wins...a book, a designer handbag (worth £550 :T) and a game. I am now an addict and thank everyone for taking the time to share and post. :D
