All but one email in inbox have gone, hundreds of them. Not in recently deleted or anywhere else.
I did a keyword search and those are visible, which I've saved, so must be somewhere, except those are now showing as inbox rather than saved, although all read in the past. My other AOL email accounts are fine, it's just my main one.
It's like the system has gone haywire.
Any help to a computer dummy appreciated.

It would help if you told us: a) is this AOL's clunky old webmail service, or are you downoading your AOL email into a desktop email program such as Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Thunderbird?
What OS are you running? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I believe it's Chrome and email says "Microsoft office outlook." When I clicked on that it said "nothing in inbox." It's windows Vista, if that matters.
To show what you are dealing with macman, I had to Google OS, so for your own sanity, maybe give up on me now. I'll understand.:o
I remember years ago ex saying ISP would be ringing to set up my computer. What a performance with them trying to describe the router, which unknown to them, I'd never seen, as elsewhere in the house, and I was on a laptop. They thought I was sat looking at it. Didn't help that ex pronounced router as in a woodworking machine. Almost tears of frustration that day.0 -
If you use a web browser and go to AOL that way, do you see your e-mails ?
If you compose an e-mail and send it to yourself do you see it ?
Are new e-mails arriving ?0 -

Try logging in to your email account using a web browser here: http://info.aol.co.uk/email/.
If your emails are not shown there, they may be lost forever unless Outlook has stored copies locally.0 -
macman + Snow Tiger,
I'm sure that the last machine I set up for someone with an AOL email was imap/webmail only, so unlikely to be stored locally.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
