meter door broken who is responsible?

There was a fault in the electrical cable in the street so Hydro Electric ran a temporary cable from our meter box to next door's meter box while they dug up the road to find the fault.
The fault is fixed now but the door on our meter box has a big split on it where it was forced closed against the wire that entered the box.
So is it worth while complaining or will they just say tough, prove it, etc. and I should fix it myself?

the company that did the work from the sounds of it...

Meterboxdirect.co.uk have got gas doors at approx £20. Its Hydro Electrics fault.what about asking for compensation as they are a doddle to fit, you may make a few quid on the deal as its the labour costs the dearest element in replacing0

£17.50 for first site I looked at
http://www.meterboxesdirect.co.uk/home/
The whole box is only £30.50
Delivery charges may apply. Other suppliers are available.

get on to Hydro-Electric (SSE) they should replace it in this case, they should have them in their stores (we do)0

very nice of you to pay for next doors electric, i wish you lived next door to me i could do with a reduced billI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
The OP wouldn't have paid for the electric, they would have taken the temp supply from the DNO side of the cut out - that or dig up the street.
With regards to the door, just phone up your DNO (Hydro Electric from what you have said), they should come out and fit a new one FOC.0 -
As others have said the dno are liable, inregards to the electric used anything before the meter is theirsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

very nice of you to pay for next doors electric,
Why would you think that?
They connected the "extension lead" into the fuse before the meter, I was the one without electricity. Not my neighbour.
