You've probably sorted this by now but just in case, I've recently been in a similar situation to you and have made a breakthrough - hopefully my story will help.
A driver hit my parked car when I was inside school, teaching. She didn't leave a note but a kind passer-by, who'd witnessed the crash, left their details - and details of where to find the culprit - on my windscreen. As the driver lived right next to school, I knocked on her door and calmly asked for her insurance details. She was with Aviva.
I'd been advised by another teacher not to involve my insurance company lest I wanted my premium to go up so I called Aviva to open a claim. They were helpful and told me it would take them 1 to 2 days to contact the driver and ascertain whether she accepted liability. Unfortunately that's where Aviva's good will ended. 9 days and many calls to them later (including being hung up on and rudely pushed from piller to post, from English call centres to Indian ones etc.), it transpired they still hadn't even called the lady. Meanwhile my car was badly damaged and unsafe to drive. As I need my car to get to work, this was becoming a real nuisance!
I realised a change in strategy was needed. So, fed up with Aviva's so-called Customer Service dept, I called their Complaint dept instead. I insisted that they called the driver while I stayed on the line - 10 mins later and the driver had accepted liability. Result! Why they hadn't called her - or the witness - I'll never know. I can only assume that Aviva have a policy of ignoring all claims, hoping that they'll just go away...
My car is now booked in to be fixed on Monday and fingers crossed the rest of the process runs smoothly.
In conclusion... call Aviva's complaint dept. Good luck!
