Wilkinsons Doughnut maker recipe

Hi I don't know if anyone on here has bought one of these machines I got one the other day to make the boys some mini doughnuts. The only problem is the recipe as follows
2 cups of plain flour (what weight is that in ounces or gms ???)
1/2 cup sugar (ditto, and is that caster sugar would you think)
one and a half tsp baking powder(not a problem )
one and a half tablespoons of egg & shortening substitute (what on earth is this )
1 tsp salt (again no problem)
2 well beaten eggs
one and a half cups of skimmed milk
Has anyone tried this recipe and if not has anyone got a recipe that I could use to make the mini doughnuts.
The machine itself looks very easy to operate its just the recipe thats driving me nuts :):)
Help !!!
I have four little boys who keep saying 'When are we going to make some doughnuts Gran ?'

this is what they're using as fat, so 1 and a half tablespoons of melted butter would be fine.

This however is the recipe I used successfully a few years back:
    200g plain flour
    100g caster sugar
    1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
    125g butter, melted
    ¾ cup milk
    1 egg, lightly beaten

I would have thought 2 eggs would make it a bit eggy tasting.

Shortening is lard or the vegi equivalent

Butter will work, but doesn't give the same 'fried' flavour? They taste more like cake

I do not see the problem some people have with cup measurements?

Small cup or container for small amounts.

    Larger for bigger amounts.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • The bottom this webpage has a conversion for cups

You can buy a set of cup measures in Wilkos or any supermarket for a couple of pounds they come in a set of 4 usually with 1 cup, half cup, third cup and quarter cup, they are very easy to use.

I actually prefer to bake using cup measures and American recipies they are generally much easier and many American cake and cookie recipies are the all in one method which saves a lot off faff with creaming butter and sugar etc.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My childhood cooking was in both cups and oz. I love the simplicity of cups.

I recently swapped a copy of nigellas Christmas book with a friend who had picked up a us copy, because she hates cups and I find them easier.

3/4 cup is just under 180ml (if using US cups)
