Too true. why would anyone want to come on a forum entitiled "House Buying, Renting, Selling & Property Prices" and talk about future house prices? Seems pretty daft to me. :rotfl:

The idea in these forums is to talk about something useful. Not mere conjucture.

Is 'I predict (guess in other words) that property prices will do xyz' any use to anyone?

Whats the conclusion to these sorts of threads? - half a dozen people think it will, half a dozen think it won't. I am so glad I have contributed to such a worthwhile thread

Is what actually happens to property prices effected at all by this discussion - Big NO!

Will some one benefit from reading this thread, alter something they wouldn't have altered if they hadn't read this thread? - they may alter something (ie sell or buy) if they are a sheep, but whether that will be of benefit is the same as asking will a hot tip from a stranger win at the bookies

Anyway, thats my 2 pence worth of wisdom. I have been sucked in more than I wanted.

Feel free to respond with some 'smart' comments and insults, as expected with this type of thread where there are two opposing views (at least it will have had some use for you then).
  • The idea in these forums is to talk about something useful.

The vast majority of threads on this forum I find non-useful to me personally.

That is pretty normal with any forum, I choose to deal with that by reading and contributing to the threads I find useful or interesting.

I don't post on all thoese threads stating that they are non-useful.....That would be the most non-useful post of all!

If the majority of people don't like a thread it will soon die.....

Why do you feel the need to just rubbish a thread? Are you in denial that there may actualy be a point within them that you'd rather not face?

You might not value your time, but I do. There is no point debating this as no one knows for sure. That is the most useful part of this thread!:rotfl:

If the majority of people don't like a thread it will soon die.....

If only! This same old rubbish has been popping up for years since the last crash. Purely because most people are worryers. They need someone to tell them what is going to happen in the future to feel safer in their bubble. Trying to predict the future is pointless though.

A more useful post would be
    a) How do I assess the risk vs reward ratio BEFORE I invest in property so I don't need to worry as I know exactly what I am getting myself into
    b) As I didn't do the above, what can I do now to minimise my risks and maxmise my gains

Rather than, do you think house prices are going to crash? Yes, I do. Well I don't. Well I do, so there. Well I don't (quoting some obscure statistic). Well I hate you. Well I hate you to just because you disagree with me etc. etc.

Why do you feel the need to just rubbish a thread?
Try and think what the natural conclusion of a thread like this is, have you actually solved a problem, what does anyone get out of it, do people feel more informed or just more confused, do people feel less worried or even more worried because of it, are people now going to make an informed discision based on fact or one based on hear say. That is why I see no point to threads like these.

Are you in denial that there may actualy be a point within them that you'd rather not face?

If I could actually see a point to them at all!, I could tell you if I could or could not face that point:rotfl:

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
  • Backup, thanks for this interesting post. Having read a lot about this from various sources over the past six months I am convinced there is going to be a 'big' housing crash (or correction if you like). I was just reading this article from the New Statesman dated 5th June of this year:

    http://www.newstatesman.com/economy/2008/06/house-prices-housing-british

and within the title it says: 'Iain Macwhirter has a warning: don't buy a house now, at any price. Just say no. You have been warned'.

For anyone interested in the financial crisis and how it has come about and what will 'likely' happen in the next 20 years I heartily recommend you watch Chris Martenson's 'Crash Course':

    http://www.chrismartenson.com/crash-course/chapter-1-three-beliefs

It's divided into small chapters which you can listen to at your leisure and it is absolutely fascinating. I've just listened to all of them. I'd appreciate feed back from anyone who does watch them.

Why is the news today saying 8% drop in the year, when last time they said it was a 10% drop in the year? - didn't they?

Is it because prices had dropped in between the 2 referencs points a year ago? Doesn't that mean therefore that the rate of fall has slowed significantly?

    Confused
  • Why do we bother to try and predict the future - none of us are clarevoyants! I could predict a 30% rise in house prices and it could just as likely happen. I could predict a 100000% rise/fall in house prices. I could predict the sky is going to fall on our heads and it has the same chance of happening

Besides, a house prices don't crash forever and at some point they pick back up. If your not in it for the long haul and are just looking for the fast buck, you have to live with the short term risks. No point crying about it, you should have known what you got yourself into to start with.

Why do I continue to read these same old threads from the same old people crying that the worlds going to end, the stock market is going to crash and that house prices will fall thourgh the floor.............................

Up until a few months ago on here, any talk of economic downturn or house price drops was ridiculed or dismissed out of hand.

Now that that's become impossible for anyone other than insane trolls, the current favourite seems to be 'nobody has a crystal ball' or 'it's all just conjecture'. But 'house prices don't crash forever' is a new one on me! It's a bit like saying 'cheer up, WW2 only lasted six years!'

Of course nobody can predict the future but I believe it is possible to make reasoned, educated guesses about what's going to happen, and I think that's what most of the so called 'gloom and doom' brigade are trying to do, in the eventual hope that we can restore some kind of sanity in the financial and housing markets.

I just don't see why people are so worried about that. To me, it's the ceaselessly optimistic bulls with their heads in the sand, constantly trying to talk up the market, that are more scary than all the 'doomongers'
