Dress rip off? - LONG rambling

I've just noticed something amiss about my wedding dress. My wedding was in June last year, so long time ago. And time has come to try pass it on. I have listed it on Ebay and when a girl asked a question about it I asked my mum to have a look at the tags inside the dress (it's hanging in her spare room).
This is a Maggie Sottero designer dress we paid £980 for. Full price plus standard adjustment fee. I have let go of the fact that the dress was not cut to my height after all the 'fittings'. I bought it off the peg, as it was an american dress that would have taken months to order, and there was no time apparently. I was happy they sold it to me, as other shops refused to order it for me because it was too late. Mum cheekily and repeatedly asked for a discount, as it was off the shop floor, but the lady just said we can't do that, but we'll get it cleaned for you.
Today  , we notice there are no tags inside my dress, except for the shop's own sawn in. Which I thought was weird, since it is a designer dress. So mum phoned up the shop and asked about this tag. The lady said it was because it was off the shop floor and that's why we got a discount  . So mum said we didn't get a discount, at which the lady started quickly backtracking and said that who'd have thought, she has the designer tags and she will post them out to mum asap.
Very weird.
With hindsight the whole shopping experience there was weird. Like when she chucked my £150 tiara in a plastic bag, no box, no paperwork. Or that the missing beading off the dress was a design quirk.
Anyway, do you girls know how bridal shops work? Is there anything dodgy here? Because as it stands, my dress is worthless, more than any used dress on Ebay can be :o.

  • I suppose they might have copied the Maggie Sottero design. Easiest way to check if they stock bona fide Maggie Sottero is to go on the MS website and find the suppliers page.

Sometimes they remove the tags because they are scratchy.

However, as it was such a long time ago I doubt you have any come back as you can only return goods if they not fit for the purpose (e.g. fell to bits at the altar).

If the dress isnt a Maggie Sottero dress then I would think there was some sort of comeback. I personally cant see them removing the tags on the dress for any reason what so ever. Maybe go in and have a nosey to see if they have other Maggie dresses hanging up with tags on.

I am not after comeback, I just want what I paid for. They are a Maggie supplier. I have sent Mum for a nosey in a different shop of same chain.
I didn't pay attention to these details, just took their word for it - what it said on their own price tags. It would never have occured to me that there was no "Maggie Sottero" written on the dress. Surely the designer wouldn't stand for it?
    Thank you for your replies.

Hiya I purchased a maggie sottero dress myself for my wedding I just wanted to say yes your dress should have a 'maggie' label inside, (mine came with shawl and bag and both have 'maggie' labels too).
Personally I would kick up a big stink your dress was not cheap (mine was a grand) and i would be mental.
I would contact maggie sottero direct and tell them what has happened Im sure they wont be too pleased with this shop.(especially if they have copied and are selling under her name)
I would demand answers as you say (dont mean to sound horrible) but your dress is 'worthless' without its designer label.

Hope you have some luck with this.
Can i be noisy and ask what shop it came from?

like taggie girl says - I would be tempted to contact maggie sotero about this. If it turns out that they sold you a dress that isn't the 'real thing' you would possibly have recourse against them for fraud or misrepresentation as oyu relied upon their statements that it was a maggie sotero dress.

Good luck and do please keep us updated whatever happens

    Totally my sentiments. Absolutely worthless.

I got a little package in the post. I wasn't expecting any Ebay goods, so it was a surprise. There was a giant jiffy envelope - reused and stuck down with lots of brown tape. Seemed empty. When I ripped into it I discovered a Maggie Sottero certificate. No note, nothing. Just a crumpled certificate ( I mean, who would send a certificate in a floppy jiffy bag?). Which I already have, as I had to ASK the shop for it - the lady pulled out one for the drawer and scribbled my name on it back last may. Didn't I mention previously they were sending me the tags?

You say you got a bag with your £1000 dress r.mac? I had to provide my own transportation for it.

Good grief, what people was I dealing with!

    Hi,

I bought my wedding dress off-the-shelf (ie it was the shop sample one) from Sassi Holford and it does not have a designer label. I'd call/email Maggi Sottero direct to reassure yourself, but perhaps shop samples don't come with labels.

In terms of demonstrating that the dress is authentic, the certificate and receipt or proof-of-purchase should be enough and might even be better than a label which could be bought from ebay and sewn in any old rag.

Did you pay full price LeanneF?

The certificate is just a piece of paper and doesn't mention anything useful, apart from congratulations you have a Maggie. And it's so important I now have two  . The receipt has name of dress on it, but not the designer.

Did you tell the shop what date you were going to wear it? If not or if they havn't got a record of it I would go and ask for my money back. People buy their dresses months in advance (like me) so how is she to know you havn't used it yet. If you get no joy from that I would write to her asking for either the labels or a refund and give her a certain date to do it in (say a month) and say that you have been advised to take the matter further. Don't let her know who advised you, let her think it's someone legal. I would also as a previous poster said contact this Maggie woman (sorry I've never heard of her :o ) and tell her everything thats gone on. It sounds to me like the shop is selling cheap fakes.

As far as ebay goes though I think you will still get a good price. People on there are looking for a bargain.
