Started using Backberrys a few years ago as they were the only phone that used "push email" ... ie that emails were immediately & automatically directed to the handset .
Is this still the case today , or was wondering with any of the new smartphones & technology whether others did it as well now ?
It's a facility i have to have .. to be immediatedly alerted with ringtone as and when a new email is received
thanks

Strictly speaking the handset polls the server, but all modern smartphones support this. My android often chirps that it had a new email long before the web based gmail client even knows about it, so I don't think you'll be disappointed0

As said above, all modern smartphones have push email. Push email is provided by the server having a direct connection to your phone. The moment an email hits the server it is automatically pushed out to your phone. This is different from pull email (which is also the process used by all browsers) where the phone polls the server periodically and requests any new email. This is why a modern phone will often receive an email shortly before a browser.0
