You may well be right that the price has been hiked based on the fact that Comet have gone bust, but it is common for retailers to reduce the price based on competitor pressures. Once the competitor is gone, no reason for the lower price.
Also, it may be some supplier funded offer where Currys get a rebate based on the amount of sales within the qualifying period.0
