V5C documents not received after 7 weeks. Please help!

Hi

It has now been 8 weeks since I bought a used car on eBay. The seller says that he sent off the V5C documents to DVLA for change of ownership 7 weeks ago however I am yet to receive the V5C document. I thought they should arrive within 4 weeks.
Can I please have some advice on what to do. What if the seller is being dishonest and hasn't sent the documents yet. What can I do in that situation?

Many thanks

If you have the slip you can apply for a free reissue.

If you don't then you have to pay.

Thanks. I have section 10 of the slip that says 'New keeper's details'. How would I be able to reapply? Shall I contact DVLA first?
  • Read this- you need form V62, send to DVLA with the green slip for free V5C

I personally wouldn't worry about it. We bought our first car at around December about 5 - 6 years ago. V5 didn't turn up for over 2 months and by that time we'd already applied for another.

Think about it logically, DVLA is a government department. In government places staff save up their leave and then take long breaks over XMas so they will be suffering from lower staffing levels hence less staff to deal with logbooks. Add to that more people buying cars for their partners, sons, daughters etc and you can probably imagine they're a bit snowed under.

You have the New Keepers slip, that to me says the seller has been honest as that is your legal proof that you have purchased the car and you are entitled to the logbook.

Photocopy everything before sending originals to DVLA and send it tracked so they can't say 'we haven't received it'.
