Just had an incident where i drove into a car at a roundabout, not drive into a car as such but was thinking the car wasn't there and I moved forward. We swapped details and I took some pics of the damage, my car looks like its come out worse but unable to tell about the other car.

We didnt call the police or ambulance so was that the right thing to do ?

As I've not been in this situation before what could the cost be to me, say the cost to repair the other car is £500 would I pay that plus cost cost it would be to fix my car ?

My excess is 250 so am i right in thinking I would pay the first £250 ?

No need for police or ambulance if no-one was injured.

You will only pay the excess if you claim for damage to your own car.

OK, thanks for that. I take it I could get my car fixed by choosing my own business to repair it or am I bound to use the authorised repairer ?

Another question is if the other party were to make a claim for injuries resulting from the incident would that be paid by the insurer who would then claim that back from me by say increasing my premiums ?

Forgot to say we both exchanged details and im in the process of writing down what happened whilst still fresh. Called the insurer but no claim handlers available due to the claims being made from the floods but I will be getting a call back on thursday (thats why im asking questions on here otherwise I would be asking the insurer).

My car seems to have bore the brunt of what happened althought its hard to tell, the bonnet is slightly bent and the front bumper is a bit cream crackered.

I don't think they can force you to use a recommended repairer. I moved from Aviva because they imposed a higher excess if you didn't use one of theirs.

Your premium may go up but they won't directly recover costs paid.

Hope you've got protected NCD - if not, your NCD will go down therefore premium will go up.

Yes I believe it is protected, looking at the policy it says "No claim Discount protection " is so much on top of the premium.

So as its protected my NCD will stay as it is and next years premium or the next policy i take out will or may go up.

Whether I take it elsewhere depends on the repair cost since my excess is £250, if it could be done for say £150 then yes id be better of choosing my own repairer.

Your premium is still likely to rise after.

If it's deemed your fault and you end up with any claim from the third party (with or without any PI claim as well), then claiming for your car will all be considered just as a single claim on your record (so if your costs are going to be over your excess then you may as well claim for your repairs too).
