Damp proof

Got a bad patch of damp on the inside of my walls, must be in a 1 metre section (Its 1m X 10cm).

The wallpaper on the inside of my house, feels powdery and some of the paper has come off.

Got some firms coming out to give quotes.

How much am I look at for the work?

What will they do?

    Hi Cheggers

We also have damp in our 2 bed Victorian conversion. The walls in the back of the house are humid to touch with brownish humidity patches showing.

We called a damp co. (Kenwood), they gave us a quote of £2700 for a chemical damp-free course and for raising the levels over 1m and re-plastering afterwards. The visit was free of charge and they appeared quite professional, they gave me the quote in a booklet.

However, we didn't do the treatment as we have since discovered that we have an under-floor leaking and that is where the damp is most surely coming from. I was quite disappointed that the company did not spot this since they would have just done the course but not fixed the causes of the damp!

so I suggest you investigate a bit further, many people do not recommend damp-proof courses....

Who have you got coming round to quote, a builder or a damp proofing contractor or someone else. I would be wary of damp proofing contractors as many people have been sold unnecessary damp proof courses.

How old is your house and where in it is the patch of damp.

Have you checked outside for an obvious cause such as an overflowing gutter, cracked rendering or rotting window frame.
