Hot water tank jacket
Hi all,
This is my first post, please be kind
I'm living on my own now in a three bedroom semi. I am unable to work at the moment due to illness, so I am reliant on ESA as income. It goes without saying that money is extremely tight at the moment.
I'm trying to curb my expenditure as much as possible, but the cost of gas and electricity are a constant concern.
The house I live in is 42 years old, and there are certain things in this house that are the same age!
One of those things is the jacket around the hot water tank (the house has an old back boiler system). It doesn't even cover the entire surface of the tank, and it is visibly decayed. Not only that, it is very thin.
I can get a new jacket off Amazon for just under £20, but I was just wondering if there are any schemes currently running where you could get a free or reduced hot water tank jacket.
Thanks.

Grants depend on where you live, but check the Energy Saving Trust website.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Throwing old blankets towels or anything else you can find around it will help. So will old socks warped around the hot pipe coming out of the top. If your local authority the rent offices sometimes give jackets away free.0

Keep the jacket in place, and cover/wrap the tank in loft insulation. You want 'loose' materials for insulation rather than dense materials like towels, if you have a choice. You could get the loft insulation out of your loft, if recently insulated, or if not, you might be lucky and qualify for free loft insulation (and even make a profit by having it). The free scheme is either stopping very soon, or has stopped already - but worth checking (anyone know?). If you get free loft insulation, then you just ask the fitter to leave an extra roll for your tank.
Until you have it well insulated, make sure you only heat water as required, and turn the immersion off when you don't need any.0 -

CERT funding for the 100% free cavity wall and loft insulation ends on 31st December 2012, you are denied the can't 'get in quick' because installation must have been completed by 31 December 2012. I would apply anyway. companies profit of course, and they will always try to find a way around the actual install deadline.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Plus Amazon is like Starbucks and doesn't like to pay any UK corporation tax.0
