Been an idiot and got the wrong change at Asda...

So I just bought like £85 of stuff from Asda, and only had £50 cash on me, so was gonna pay with card, but ended up just borrowing £40 from my dad. She counted the £50, then I handed over the £40 and she put it in the till and gave me the £5 change or whatever

When I got home, I remembered I'd grabbed an extra tenner before I left (didn't intend to spend more than £50, so just in case)

I had £200 at home and have £140 now so I did take £60 which means I gave her £100 and she only gave me change for £30

I know it was stupid of me to not properly count the £60 before I handed it over, but is it worth chasing this up with Asda? Will customer services be able to do anything as it was a cash transaction?

I thought that maybe they take the cash from the till once an hour or something, and maybe if there was £10 over they could match it to the transaction ID on my receipt?

Wish I would have only given her £20 now if she wasn't even gonna count it :(

Call the store, they can check whether the till is up or not. No guarantees you will see your money again, indeed from what you have said there is guarantee you even gave her the money, but no harm in asking.

You said she counted the £50 but it sounds like that should have been £60. If she counted it then it must be £50? Are you sure the £10 isn't somewhere else?

Are you 100% sure, because Im fairly sure the lady on the till would hav counted it.

If you ring custome services, they could possibly let you know if the till was over by the end of the day.

If you don't it is going to drive you mad.

If you dont get it back, just learn from it. If you do get it back, learn from that too.

Just check your pockets, wallet, just in case you put the tenner separate.

Hi, what I mean is she counted the £50/60 but then when I gave her the extra £40 she just put it in the till so probably thought it was £30 I gave her, but my dad counted it out before he gave it to me (ironically like I should have done)

I called the store and they said to just go in with the receipt, need to go into town tomorrow anyway so I'll pop in and check. I guess if it wasn't possible for them to do anything she would have said outright over the phone?
  • Yes, for a phone complaint like this, especially at this time of year, they'll probably make a note of the claim and wait until the end of the cashiers shift to count the till. If it's £10 up, they're now expecting it and they'll put the money to one side for you. If it's not, then maybe you spent the extra £10 elsewhere?
