OH got made redundant this week, i work 18-22 hours a week and earn on average £570 a month, after numerous phone calls to various departments of jobcentre, we were informed oh could claim jsa contribution based. I applied yesterday online and after answering a few questions it came up that he should claim jsa income based so i filled out the form and submitted.
can anyone tell me why i was told different?

OH can claim contributions based JSA which will be £71.00 a week.
If the two of you were to claim income based JSA then you would get £111.45 a week but your hours and earnings would reduce the payment to nothing as you earn over £130.00 each week.
So my opinion...claim the contributions based JSA for 6 months.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

i have already submitted the claim form for which i believe to be income based , thing is though i think jsa-ib would be better as he would then be able to claim carers allowance for our son.... just not sure whats what :wall:0

You cant claim JSA and carers allowance, it has to be one or the other.0

CB and IB are the same amounts however if he claims IB he will only receive NI credits and not any money due to your income
If he has sufficient NI contributions for 09/10 and 10/11 (changing to 10/11 and 11/12 in January) then he will receive the £71 per week for 26 weeks0
