How much import duty will i be charged?

I agree with Martin if possible I try and get items sent through the postal service. Couriers always charge a fortune.

ISTR that the US Postal Service has an international postal service, which is just $10.00 for a package up to 1lb in weight.
Buying stuff from abroad can result in some real bargains, but you really do need to calculate the "worst case scenario" of VAT and import duty for whatever is involved first. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

it depends who they are sending them by!!!! if you do get stung for import tax it will be on the whole amount ie. $165 not just the $100 you paid. I think its a real rip off!!!!! that you have to pay tax on the postage why should you pay tax on the postage
if you tell me exactly what party stuff it is i could try and work it out on the fed ex site for you?
if they are being sent up usps then you might get lucky and not get anything. My cousin ordered some bedding came to approx the same cost as yours and she was charged £24 duty and handling fee. But party stuff might have a different duty percentage to bedding.0 -
need some more help guys!!!

my bags have arrived today via fed-ex :j :j
how will i know how much duty i will have to pay? will they just send me a letter in a week or so? is there anything on the box that shows that you will have to pay duty? or if there is nothing on the package does that mean i am lucky and i have got away with it?
i have a sticker that says cleared on the box so i assume thats customs but nothing about a price for duty???
sorry about the questions but this is the first thing i have bought from the states and dont know how it all works!!!0 -

You will get an invoice later. Just keep your fingers crossed and it might slip by customs if you are lucky.0 -

right i spoke to fed-ex and i have been clobbered  which i knew i would be, she couldnt tell me how much as they hadnt worked it out yet, but i spoke to customs (god what a jolly bunch they are........not!!) and i will be charged 17.5% vat and 2.7% import duty plus the £4.50 fed ex charge so i have worked it out that it will be about the £30-31 i was expecting so that will be great!!
Thanks you huys for all your help.0 -
The good news is that they don't charge VAT on the duty so you'll save a few pence there!0
