Non UK resident requires UK current account

I'm about to leave the UK forever to live in Australia. However, I need a decent UK current account so that the income from my leased flat can be paid in to it. and taken out by the letting agent. My current current account pays a disgustingly low interest rate, but money never stays in it for very long so it has always been irrelevent how much interest I earn.

I've looked at Cahoot but the terms and conditions state that it is only open to Uk residents. Is there a way round this problem?

Thanks,

Ian

I am resident in Spain, but a UK taxpayer. I have no address or other financial arrangements in the UK.
I want to open a UK based sterling current account as it is possible I may be returning to the UK after selling my Spanish home.I am also suffering, (like many others) from the diabolical exchange rates £GBP/Euro and would like a home for some UK issued pension payments. I would arrange a couple of small UK pension to be credited to this account until the time came to transfer my home sale proceeds.
On a recent visit to the UK, I failed to find any bank which would open an account for a person unable to prove a UK address - including HSBC, from whom I receive a bank pension!
    Any ideas, folks?
  • We too live in Spain and are suffering from the exchange rate.

In answer to your question, I don't think any banks will open an account for you if you do not have a UK address. Although we are Spanish resident, we have had no problems opening accounts but a) we still have a UK address and b) these were with banks that we already had accounts with.

I hope someone can give you more positive information.

The best option for people living overseas who want a GBP account is to open an offshore account with one of the following banks:
