can he cancel his car insurance?
Hi everyone
My brother passed his test in september, bought a car insured it, turned out to be a wreck so our mam donated him her car as she was upgrading.
So his insurance has gone from £165 to £238 a month because this car has a slightly bigger engin etc he is with asda.
Last night we went through admiral and if he was to insure his car now with his few months experiance he can get his insurace for £ 144 a month for 10 months! I have told him to cancel asda and just start again with admiral,.
Now then can this be done midway through a policie?
:
Does anyone know if asda have a penalty for leaving them?
Also any other useful information would be greatfully received
Thanks laura
Actually I think I may of posted this in the wrong section of the website can someone move it for me please?

Can he cancel? Yes - but not without having to pay £££
Insurance is an annual policy. He has taken a full year policy, but is paying in installments. They will probably have a cancellation clause, and any penalty will be in his documents, which you/he have access to. People on here don't have access to his specific policy, so why don't you get the documents and check them? :cool:0 -

This makes the most sense lol I have read through his online stuff, and all I can find is you can cancel at anytime just send back the certificate within 21 days of cancellation. the only paper documents he has are his insurance certificate and his payment plan.
I just thought someone might of done it before so might of had a yes no answer, but he will just have to give them a ring.
thanks for the reply 0 -
There will be charge for time on cover and the cancellation fee. It may cost a fair % of the premium.
Then not all companies will accept the 10 months no claims so maybe stuck with that company for a few years.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thank you for the replys its a years coverage but split over 10 months worth of payments, for 144 a month, he has only been driving 3 and a bit months in my mind I was thinking the sooner he starts with this new policie then he will save nearly £100 a month but like yous have all mentioned its the financial penalties he could face for leaving his current insurer and restarting the no claims it might not be worth it. He said he will ring Monday but I don't know if they will be open, I will let you know what happens.0

Are you sure its not a 10 month policy but you earn a years no claims?
Sometimes called a bonus acclerator or similar. 10 months o safe driving gives
you a years no claims. But get a quote from a different company and they say you were only covered for 10 months so they wont allow you to use 1 years no claims with them.
After a few years it wont matter though. But you maybe tied to that company. Who could be dearer next year.
You might want to check that. You lose 2 months cover...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
