Help with Grass seed please - Which one!

I am confused by all the different types of grass mixtures there are available such as:

PRO 20 - High Quality Fine Lawn
PRO 25 - Low Maintenance Amenity
PRO 50 - Quality Lawn Seed (NEW)
PRO 51 - General Purpose Lawn Seed
PRO 52 - Fine Lawns
PRO 60 - Shady Lawns
PRO 70 - Multi Purpose Amenity

Some of these seem to have rye grass while other don't?
Can any one advise me which one would best suit my needs:

I want a grass that is going to look fabulous, but it also needs it to take the general wear & tear of my two year old daughter.

So I was thinking of one of these three below, they all seem to be hard wearing, but which one will look better, can anyone advise:

**PRO 51 - General Purpose Lawn Seed**
40% ESQUIRE perennial ryegrass
60% MAXIMA strong creeping red fescue

**PRO 70 - Multi Purpose Amenity**
35% PLATINUM perennial ryegrass
35% DELAWARE perennial ryegrass
30% MAXIMA strong creeping red fescue

**PRO 50 - Quality Lawn Seed (NEW)**
20% SAUVIGNON perennial ryegrass
35% MARGARITA perennial ryegrass
20% HERALD strong creeping red fescue
10% DARWIN chewings fescue
10% REGGAE slender creeping red fescue
5% HIGHLAND browntop bent

  • Perennial Rye Grass gives you your hard wearing element and is what's used mostly on amenity pitches

Fescues:red fescues are the traditional grasses used in ornamental lawns. Strong creeping red fescue not as tolerant to close mowing as chewings and slender
Chewings and slender creeping are what are used in golf greens and bowling greens. So these 3 are what give you a nice green ornamental lawn (unless of course there's a drought)

Bents: hardwearing, good drought resistance, tolerates close mowing

When i was a college we were advised that the most important aspects were:
    tolerance to close mowing
    resistance to disease
    drought resistance
    fine leaf/compact growth habit
    wear resistance (if applicable)

Personally i'd go with the PRO50, to get the balance between the different grass types

    Hope this helps a bit.
i always though grass was grass until i started studying!

You can buy the best grass possible but if its not looked after properly it will in the end look bad.

If you have a young child to play on the lawn then I would use General Purpose Grass seed. Once established, regular mowing, spiking and top dressing, scarifying and a bit of weeding will keep the lawn looking good. Depends how much work you invest through the year versus the standard you wish to achieve.
