cheque payments again

Once again I was persuaded to bid for something by one of my sons where the seller didn't take paypal.

Item won three weeks ago, I never had anything from the seller at all, no invoice, no acknowledgement to my email saying they had the cheque. After 2 weeks I emailed to ask when my item would be posted as cheque had been presented and had gone though my bank account, but i heard nothing. A second email also remains unanswered as does contact via 'ask seller a question'.

I've tried phoning once but got no reply, not even an answering machine.

Seller has not been active on ebay since selling my item and it was one of the first things they had sold although they do have 50 positive feedbacks as a buyer.

The amount was tiny, less than a fiver but I am so cross at myself for not sticking to my no paypal/no bidding rule. I'm just hoping he is away and is slow to post and maybe my item will arrive tomorrow. I don't mind waiting for something if the seller at least had the courtesy to tell me it was on its way or something, but the lack of any contact whatsoever is infuriating. The last thing I paid for by cheque took three weeks to arrive but at least he acknowledged my payment even if he did then wait over two weeks before posting out my item.

Luckily i used a secondary id which I can afford to lose, so if I don't hear anything in a month I will be leaving negative feedback.

Yip done the same thing myself. Just sent another email today as it has been three weeks. Im always tempted by the cheap book sales at 99p but it is just causing more grief ! I would never dream of not sending an item out after three weeks. My seller responded by saying they were sending the item out last Tuesday, must be getting delivered by snail. By the time the book comes in I will no longer be intereasted in it or it will be a limited additon !

Have you heard from your buyer Soolin with the echeque ?

As misleading thread titles go, that one is up there with the best. :p

Your dislike of cheques is well noted, however, perhaps a more accurate thread title would have been............... "Poor Performing Newbie Seller Again" ;)

The ease with which you advise that one can claw back funds from a cashed cheque is one reason you dislike them, however, thankfully in this instance it will work in your favour and ensure you are able to get your money back should the seller fail to deliver.

No my echeque is still sitting there and I haven't heard from the buyer at all. I have my fingers crossed that it clears soon as it is the only outstanding thing I have to post out.

No, my problem is with the cheque. I have no reason to recall it as I am careful not to issue an incorrect cheque, the ones recalled on me had minor little problems to do with words and figures or a dispute over the date.I don;t set out to defraud people or exploit the loophole in cheque clearance.

My gripe is that if I had used paypal I would have put in a chargeback by now which would have got the sellers attention at the very least.
