Retiring Early on Medical Grounds

Hi, I have a question on behalf of my dad,
He is 63 and has epilepsy and diabetes, and in the past six months has been suffering with bad seizures due to stress from work.
His doctor has told him he will be happy to sign any documentation including sick notes if he would like to give up work.
He hasn't got a company or private pension, and his state pension wont start until he's 65.
Would he be able to claim any benefits that would entitle him to give up work on medical grounds until he is old enough to claim his state pension.
Sorry if i've missed any details out, please ask me anything
thanks in advance

If he has paid National Insurance and his Doctor will sign sick notes, he may be able to claim Incapacity Benefit.

Hi, I had to sort this out for myself a year ago and as long as your dad has been paying his National Insurance he should be able to claim Incapacity Benefit until his State Pension kicks in at 65 . There may be other benefits he would be entitled to because of his illness I am not sure about that but someone with a lot more knowledge will be along I am sure.....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

As he is over 60 I think perhaps early retirement and pension credit might be an avenue to explore.0
