Help Needed with Bank of Scotland Credit Card Application

Hi,
Just looking for a bit of help and advice as I don't want to do the wrong thing !, to put you in the picture.
I have a Capital One Credit card which I use from time to time and pay off in full when I do use it, the limit is £2100 and I have had it since 2008.
When I was on the phone to Bank of Scotland the other day and at the end of the conversation the advisor said that he could see I was eligible for a Credit Card, he said he could transfer me through to the department to apply which I declined, he could also tell me the limit I would get.
Now if I was applying I would rather do it online, and if I was successful I would close down the Capital One card.
He did say it was not guaranteed but it would not show on his system if I had no chance at all.
So what are my chances ?, and if I applied online would I get the same eligibility as I would get on the phone ?, or is the phone system different ?.
I guess I don't want to muck it up as I have not had my account with BOFS for long.
He did say that I could wait until I get an offer on internet banking but did not know how long that would take.
Thanks

A lot of lenders will pre approve you for a credit card or loan BUT all will credit score you should you decide to apply.
If your credit files are clean the application should go through without a problem.
What I would ask is do you get anything for opening this card - cashback perhaps or a 0% purchase or balance transfer deal?
If not is there a point in applying if you pay in full every month?0 -
What's the preference with applying over the internet? By the way the branches have a 50% off sale on their balance transfer fee. I don't know if that extends to telephone and internet applications0
