There are lots of places for rafting, more so along towards Aspen for the cat 5 rapids but still plenty of white water action to be had all the way down to the Grand Canyon itself.

I know what you mean about hire charges, I have started to plan my holiday and some of the prices are sending shivers down my back  it doesn't help that I have not been across the pond for a couple of years so I am a bit out of touch and add to that, I am going to one of the more expensive states this time.

with me rafting with the family, it'll be more of a gentle float, rather than an adreneline burst !

As well as the one way hire charge catching me out, I've also checked the passports and two of them need renewing as well :eek:.

As for yourself, come on then, spill the beans, where are you off to ?

All the rivers are graded so a gentle float will be available wherever there are rafts on a river, I did a float leaving from the foot of the Glen Canyon dam and it was mighty impressive going down the narrow horseshoe canyons.
    This was the start point

I am planning to go to Alaska sometime around August/September

If you are staying in San Luis Opisbo, have you stayed at the Madonna Inn? It's fantastic with themed rooms you can choose from.
