I need to purchase a car part from Germany....In the description it says
All prices shown on in our online-shop include 19% German VAT. The 19% VAT will be deducted from the price, when you order outside of Europe or within the EU with a valid VAT-ID-Number (only companies do have one).
My sons pals own a garage(repairs and sales)....can I get them to order this part for me, then can I legally just give them what they paid for it...or get them to fit it(its a 2 minute job) and only pay the price they paid for it...
I know nothing about VAT or its workings...

Couponing....."every little hurts"

The business will have to pay the 20% VAT due on the import on its quarterly return.
They can't then claim back that VAT on personal purchases (ie for their own car). And definitely not for your car in any circumstances. You can't say you're looking for legal ways to avoid the VAT and then suggest fraud, you know.import this0 -

I understand that....this is a part that only breaks by physical force...it doesnt wear. Using this knowledge, I hoped that they could fit the new part to their car(hopefully without paying the vat) and I could then use the part they took off for my car...but because of your explanation, I see this isn't vat avoidable either.....so no good.Couponing....."every little hurts"

Greetings
Have you tried asking on an owners forum about sourcing parts from abroad/within the EU?
To see if there's a way round it .Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0 -

have you tried scrappies etc in the uk?
my brother actually got a CD70 sat nav for his astra for 30 quid from a scrappy (including the screen)... was a little scratched up the head unit. but it looked great after a quick spraying of black gloss...
(the unit in vauxhall would cost about a grand)
you can get some bargains if you hunt around enough... and whether its a bargain because the scrappy isnt paying vat etc is legally down to them, not you...0 -

I appreciate you may not understand all the ins and outs of how VAT works, but surely you understand the basic principle that, as your son's pal is VAT registered, he he supplies you a part as part of his business, then he will have to charge you VAT on that part?
The same goes for any labour charge he may charge you for fitting it, but if he is kind enough to fit the part for no additional labour charge the is no Value Added Tax to pay on the labour as 20% of nothing is nothing0 -
They have to charge you VAT on it,
The B2B transaction is exempt but you are the consumer0 -
As the end customer you have to pay VAT. You can either pay it in Germany @ 19%, or you can pay in the UK @ 20%. But you have to pay it.
Your friend risks a fine or jail if he defrauds the VAT man. The car has to go through his books for him to avoid the german VAT, and once its on the books he has no choice but to charge VAT to you.0
