Called autoaid and paid £38, even happier!0

It is quite a few years since I called them out, but it used to be the case that AA or RAC were much more likely to repair the car at the side of the road, and even if they couldn't, they would stay on the case until a satisfactory result seemed likely. The cheaper alternatives are very often just a recovery service.0

Autoaid (and also another GOOD cheap service, IC breakdown) use local garages and also Green Flag. I have ben with Autoaid for years and my mother and son with IC Breakdown. We have always received top rate service. Both my sons and my mothers cars were fixed at roadside and mine was fixed at home on the 3 occasions they have been called out. If you check out the reviews of Autoaid you will see that they are very highly rated.
I did used to be an AA member but cancelled my membership when I had to use their stupid relay service.0 -
Just got my renewal through from AA - £106. On moneysupermarket the AA are by far the most expensive, with quotes from other companies starting from £18 for the same cover. I don't think I'll bother with the phonecall, I'll just go elsewhere.0

I get full rac cover free through work. I can't find any better than that.0

That is certainly not the case with Autoaid, they call out the nearest, garage. Whereas AA and RAC only call out the nearest garage signed up to their organisation.
Autoaid also do roadside and "homestart" repairs in the same way that the RAC and AA do. PLUS it is the driver who is covered, not the vehicle.0
