French Bulldog - Cherry Eye

Hello!
Was wondering if anyone has treated their dog (Frenchie or otherwise) for cherry eye. He's been to the vet's and they've advised an op that will fix it, but I've done research online and apparently the success rate is only about 50%!
The op would cost £350, and isn't covered by our insurance. I want to pay and get it done, but my partner isn't so sure, as the eye doesn't hurt, and I can easily pop the gland back in when I close his eye. I'm also a bit apprehensive about having him under anaesthetic, so if it could be avoided I'd be happier!
If anyone could recommend any alternatives, I'd be interested to hear.
Thanks

Have you considered a second opinion? Did your vet say it was only a 50% success rate?0
-
No, not had a second opinion, yet Jenny. Will get him booked in tomorrow.
The vet didn't say 50%, but she did tell me that if pushing it back in doesn't work, they can operate and it's not always successful. That's what made me look online for some more info, instead of booking him in straight away.0 -
Is your bulldog young? I had a vet tell me that my Mastiff had cherry eye when he was young...in fact as he grew the problem sorted itself out.“Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.”

Hi Welsh, he's 8 months old. That's encouraging to hear, would be good if he just grew out of it!

Have you tried a breed forum as they are likely to have more experience?0

Yep, will check it out, thanks hethmar0

Hope you find some answers, and as suggested above, a breed forum would be a good idea0
