Hi I have always found carjet (not sure if it is co.uk/com) good value for money, and they have companies that operate out of Murcia. They often upgrade you upon arrival for no extra charge.
    Hope that helps

Jack >>> Beat me to it.

I have used carjet before and it was absolutely hassle free and yes I was upgraded free of charge.

see http://www.car-jet.co.uk/ and choose Spain in countries down left hand side.

Holiday Autos were the cheapest when we were looking at car hire for Murcia, pless you can get cashback on Quidco. Turns out we have the use of a car anyway, so didnt need to book it in the end.

Murcia airport is a very small airport and most of the car rental companies "offices" are vans in the car park, there is nothing wrong with this and is quite common in Spain, I believe. However they can usually only deal with one person at a time and long queues can and do form. I would sugggest that the driver goes straight to the rental van and leaves the rest of your party to collect the bags, the car park is right outside the terminal, so very easy to meet up again. Also of all the foreign Airports I have used, Murcia was the most badly signposted, so I would also suggest you print out a map for your return to the airport from wherever you are staying, the Airport is quite a way from Murcia and known locally as San Javier. We drove from Benidorm on the Motorway and didnt see one sign for the Airport, had to stop and ask people.

    Hi,

    2 ideas for you...

If you just want to pay by card, try Auto Europe (who I have used many times when we visit Portugal). They were recently voted top in an Observer poll. They don't own a fleet of cars, but negotiate deals with main operators such as Europcar. The only snag, if any, is that you don't know who you will be renting through before paying, if you have any particular loyalty.

I think the prices are great. And if you register, they'll send you online special offers.

    Website is: http://www.auto-europe.co.uk/

    Idea number 2:

Get saving those Tesco clubcard points then buy Clubcard deals (which count at 4 times face value) with AVIS. It's a bit of faffing about sending off coupons etc, but works well. Recently I used AVIS in this way - their cost was £144 for a week (so therefore £36 worth of Clubcard vouchers).

Cheapest price paying cash etc with AutoEurope would have been about £100.

Watch out for ways of raising extra Clubcard vouchers. I recently spent £50 on wine & got an extra 1000 points. They spend in store for £10 but are worth £40 towards my next car hire!!!

Oh dear... what a lot of wine I'll have to drink.

    Have a lovely holiday.

Thanks for the advice, I thought it must be a small airport if Ryanair fly their!

Tesco vouchers, now that is a good idea - thanks mallymal!

Cheers for all the suggestions :money:
  • I hate flying but found Murcia airport ok due to it being so small, much better than Alicante, not to be beaten by Blackpool airport though for it's small size!!

    "Cheap Spainish Car Hire"

Does that mean France or Portugal will do?

Try https://www.recordrentacar.com, I have used these and they are very good. (although from Alicante not Murcia).

Be wary with carjet, as although there prices are very good, they charge you for a full tank of fuel, but it is at least 50 euros, whereas record usually give it full and you return it full.

Also book through Quidco, and you get £1.75 back,
