incorrect fault diagnosis - do i have to pay?

Hi there.
I just wondered if i might be able to tap someone's knowledge.
I recently called a plumber and asked if they could have a look at my faulty boiler. He said there would be a call out fee of £42 for the diagnosis.
The guy looked at it and said it was a faulty circuit board. A replacement board would be £250 + labour and as the boiler was a about 10 years old it may not make economic sense to fix it (although he said he could fix it if i preferred). He quoted for a new boiler - approx £1300.
I had another plumber look at it and he found that one of the wiring connections (not in the circuit board) had perished, replaced the part (£5) and its now working again for £35!
The question is, do i have to pay the original plumber for what turns out was an incorrect diagnosis? I'm pretty sure he didn't intentionally give the wrong diagnosis but nonetheless it was wrong.
Any advice is appreciated.

If I had the details of a reputable plumber - I'd be inclined to tell the other one to bog right off.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
