Mercedes have 4 options for servicing.

    Lite - £139 - drop off
    Lounge - £159 - while you wait
    Drive - £189 - courtesy car
Collect - £189 - they collect and return the car

Prices are 'from' and for an A service.

So, an extra £20 to drink their coffee or an extra £50 for a courtesy car !!!!

£50 for a courtesy car, puts my £18 in to perspective..BUT £20 to wait in the lounge that just seems wrong

Someone has to pay for that expensive Italian coffee machine.

My dealer charged £6 for a courtesy car last year, you replace the fuel used, this year no charge and again you replace the fuel used. Don't know what has changed.

Mercedes owners may be more quick to part with their cash.... however, it could be that they do it to an agreed time to save you hanging about for ages instead of dropping it off in the morning and collecting at night.

The BMW dealer here for short, straight services or even if you want to just peruse the new models in the showroom, provides the broadsheets, good coffee and a mini-valet! Sensibly for longer work (or your thinking about changing) they give you a foc car and its always an upsell model. That's a business.

You might have fully comp but that a) doesn't automatically include the ability to drive other cars and b) covers third party only.

If I lent a new or nearly new car out to someone I'd like to make sure it was covered properly.

If you don't like the cost, ask them to pick it up and drop it back to you.
My insurance specifically states that I have the same insurance cover on a courtesy car while mine is being serviced as on my own car.

There's no free lunch in a BMW service centre, you pay in the end!

Are some people on here confusing the term "courtesy car" with "free car"?

Some places have free courtesy cars, others make a nominal charge of £10 to cover insurance/wear and tear/maintenance/depreciation, others charge £25-£50. And some dealers only supply courtesy cars to customers who have purchased the vehicle at that dealership, which sometimes is also fair.
