I have a 4 year old with a very high instep who has asked for vegetarian shoes. :T

Anyway, I have to get his feet measured and the shoes fitted properly. Any ideas? (We're able to travel anywhere in Yorkshire.) Oh, and they HAVE to be reasonably priced.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the links. One or two that I didn't know about.
Am currently looking for walking boots.

For vegan/vegetairian climbing shoes. I have a pair of the electra ones and I love them. They're definitely helping me fly up the wall. I managed to find mine in Inglesport in Ingleton, North Yorkshire to save on postage, so possible to get them from elsewhere in the country too.

For walking boots/shoes, there is an Italian company who makes them. I also managed to find a very cheap pair of non-leather Karrimor walking shoes which I love for walking around town or going on shorter hikes.

Good for him GR :D I don't know anywhere in Yorkshire I'm afraid. It depends on what type of shoes you're looking for. Lots of sports shoes are synthetic these days and canvas sneakers for when the weather is dryer. Does he have shoe inserts for the high instep (isn't too sure what a high instep is :o)?

You could always get the shoes measured at a "regular" store and then order some shoes from online.

  • It means his foot is not only wide, but 'deep' too. So a measurement wouldn't be any good. It has to be tried on as a 12G (for example) may fit in width and length but not in 'height'.

They need to be 'proper' shoes for school so sneaker/trainer types won't be suitable. But I'll keep plugging away at it for him and maybe it'll even be worth taking a trip in the summer and incorporating a shoe shop stop.

    Thanks everyone.

FWIW, I've been wearing non-leather shoes for gosh, well, over 10 years now, and all but two pair came from regular shoe stores. Anything that says "man made" is vegetarian, and there are some symbols that give you clues as well. The Veg Society has a page about leather shoes: http://www.vegetarian.org.uk/factsheets/leather.html The symbol is down there somewhere.
