My 23 year old daughter is due to renew her insurance on an 11 plate Fiesta econetic next year. Currently she is paying £150 per month. Tonight she checked and it has gone up to £250 per month. Thats a rise from £1.800 to £3,000.

Methinks the insurance companies are rubbing theur hands with glee at the European ruling.

Trying doing the quote with annual payments rather than monthly. The fees on monthly premiums are often horrendous. Also remember that even if she is paying monthly, if she has an accident and writes her car off she is still liable for the balance of the premium for the rest of the year. Can she get an interest free credit card for purchases or fund the payment in one go some other way - the saving is likely to make it worthwhile.

Knew it was too good to be true to expect us blokes to get any reductions of note.

I'm 42, 14 years no claims, 0 points, want protected NCB and legal assistance, drive about 2k miles a year at the moment and have a 12yr old Astra.

I've been on a couple of comparison sites as my renewal is due on the 29th (first time in early Dec, then once on the day the ruling came into effect and once just now).

The prices have been going up on each subsequent search - I was under the impression they'd dip by 3% for over-40s males (heard this on the radio). Maybe there's some other factor that's overriding any gender-related reduction.

Amazingly, my renewal came out cheapest, even when I did the first check on the day the renewal letter arrived. That's a first as normally renewals are a mile off being the cheapest! It's about 15% cheaper than anything I can get currently, based on the searches I've just done, and the excesses are lower too.

Weird... so for me prices quoted on comparison sites have crept up gradually by 10% over the course of December.
