I have had my roof checked by A Shade Greener approx 12 months ago and it was approved as suitable and facing the correct way. At the time I never pursued it but I am now in a position to go ahead, however, I cannot get a number to call them on and when I try to contact via the web they say my roof isn't suitable!!!!!!

Does anyone have a contact number???

My neighbour already has panels installed and faces the same way as well !!!!

    Hello,

If you contact the Customer Relations team on 0845 094 6148 they will be able to locate your old file and take it from there.

Due to changes in rate paid, they may have tightened their criteria.
If I was ASG, I would only be installing panels on roofs with appropriate slope, pointed from southsouthwest to southsoutheast, and with absolutely no shade, in the best solar output areas of the country.

Their returns are less due to the regulations than private individuals. It may be valid for someone else to install panels themselves on east or west facing roofs, but not for ASG.

We altered our criteria in December 2011 due to the reduction in the Feed-in-Tariff but since then it has remained the same.

As you say, shading is the number one enemy of PV systems, even a tiny amount of it can drastically reduce a systems generation.

I had never heard of this scheme until a friend told me about it today.

But, she said that only people on benefits qualify for A Shade Greener free solar panels.

    Is this true?

I have been on their web site, and can't find any mention.

    Hiya Deltadawn,

Load of codswollop, ASG will put panels on anyones roof...providing a) they own the roof and b) the roof is SW to SE facing and capable of taking 4kWp of panels.

They're not everyones cup of tea and opinions are divided on whether they'll increase or decrease the value of a house(due to the lease on your roof). I personally wouldn't touch a house with them on with a bargepole...but then I can afford to buy my own panels. HTH

    Thank you for that information.
We had thought of buying panels. But at our age, I doubt we would recoup the outlay.

We are south/south west facing, and the property is about 40 feet wide.

That is correct, it is all about the property and not the person.

It is each to their own with solar panels, we have not had any experience of our systems causing issues when selling a property and over 100 of our customers have moved on since we started installing in 2010.

Purchasing panels is still a good investment but it is not for everyone. My grandparents had FREE solar from ASG, since they are in their mid 70's the investment side of solar did not appeal to them as they would be 80+ before they started to get a return.

We had them out, the surveyor said all appeared ok, we then got a letter saying refused application due to shading from trees to the south of the house... Fair enough, except there are no trees to the south. Sent photos to them showing all aspects and the lack of 'trees causing shade' and still nothing back.
