Third party on other vehicles, without owning one?

Having just waved goodbye to what's left of my car, I'm not going to be getting a new one for a while.

One of the more useful aspects of my car insurance (Esure) was being covered to drive any vehicle on a third-party basis. I'd like to carry on with this arrangement, as it's useful for weekends away with friends and the odd 'can I borrow your car' moment.

Going on one person's insurance as a named driver isn't really an option, because there are 6 or 7 cars I'd be driving.

Does anyone know of an insurer that offers to cover me, third party, on any vehicle? Thikning about it, I'd also be interested in paying an annual premium to prevent me from having to take those vastly overpriced policies that you get at car rental counters.
