selling car near road tax renewal
It looks like i am selling my non running car soon.
It's road tax is expired end of december and it is either being sold or scrapped before then.
Is it simply a case of as soon as i'm paid for the car and send off my part of the log book with the date of sale on it that i'm not legally responsible for the tax??
I'm just slightly worried that due to the time of year that even if i send the v5 off straight away it's not going to be dealt with for some time (i'm assuming DVLA will at least in part be on holiday) and that somehow i'll get hit saying i'm due the road tax even though i will have sold the car.

If you are scrapping the car then make sure you get an end of life cert and you are covered, if selling the car on just send the v5 back and you have fullfilled your obligations but be prepared for the DVLA to claim you didnt send it and try issuing a penalty 6 months down the line.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

If you sell, make a photocopy of the V5 once you've both signed before sending it to the DVLA and get one of those free proof of posting from the Post Office... Could make your life easier later on
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
