dog sitter or day care?

Hi!

Not sure if there is already a thread in here on this topic but I need some advice on what to look for in a good dog sitter. Or maybe suggestions on what makes a good dog day care center.

My family and I are headed to a lake lodge in MN and it's been decided we can't take the dogs for a few reasons.

Do you suggest I hire a center to take my dogs to while we're away for a week. Or should I bother someone to take care of them in my house for me. I know there are a lot of pros and cons to both, I just need other opinions.

Here's what I do know from this article that lists several advantages. But has anyone had a bad experience that I am oblivious to?

Thanks in advance!

You're in the USA and this is a UK forum.

You mention a "center" and your holiday destination suggests you are in the US.

Do you have people that will take your pets into their own homes?

On the assumption you have checked them out and they are insured, and legit, this to me seems the better option for the dog.

ie, they are not in kennels and suddenly going from loads of fuss to zero fuss. Also they do not get messed in the head with a stranger coming into their home (which they are supposed to guard and protect), so not knowing how to react.

It all depends on the dog, how protective they are of the home, some like home/pet sitters. I've taken on rescues, and for the first 2 weeks or so, they have been perfect guests, only pushing the boundaries once they know we are their new life long owners.
