Hi all
I found a great flight only deal to malta for the beginning of may from bristol.Could anyone advise on cheap accommodation on the island.I am traveling alone so a hostel or something similar would be fine.I had a look on alpharooms.com,but it pulled a load of 4 & 5 star hotels. Thanks in advance.

Oh you lucky thing going to Malta. Were going in July but the way we save money staying over there is with family ( my mum is malteese). Where are you wanting to stay? and have you been before?
if you havent these two sites have good info on the feista and things

We have just got back from Malta (hubby is Maltese). This time we stayed at the Park Hotel instead of with family and it was an awful hotel.Supposedly a 4* but it should only warrant a 3* at the most.Bedrooms were very basic to say the least(stained and mouldy curtains and rugs.Bedding and pillows were disgusting and towels were threadbare and then there was the food it was dreadful.
So next time we will be back to staying with family."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
Blimey! Thats terrible, mind you I have heard things said like that about the park, so I am not suprised.
We stayed at the san pawl hotel once and the towels werent be changed at all. The rooms were grubby. And to top it off the malteese male staff were talking in malteese oggling at topless tourists round their pool. Mum understood everything they were saying and thought it was awful. So my mum went to the manger speaking in malteese and complained.
Its amazing how quick things were changed, we were moved rooms and given the best service all because they knew we were malteese. It shouldnt happen like that but next time if it ever happens to you again moan at them in malteese they bend over backwards to help then.
Like I say it shouldnt be like that all complaints should be treated equally and fairly but for some reason it doesnt work like that over there.
The best hotel we have stayed in was the preluna that is an amazing hotel. I highley recommend it to everyone thats thinking of going over there, its very lush and clean.
Anyway ill stop woffling now its one of my fave subjects.
Hope the weather was nice for you...my uncle keeps telling me its been very cold over there lately!0 -
The weather was great for the 1st 2 weeks then for our last week it turned ever so cold and windy.I agree the Preluna looks fab.We stayed at the Victoria Hotel in Sliema once and it was a gorgeous hotel just wish we had gone there again instead of the Park.
We did actually complain(and many others as well) at the Park but whether anything gets done is another matter."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -

Do you think the Victoria is child friendly? We have a one year old, do you know if they have cots and highchairs?
I looked up the Preluna and it doesn't seem to have a good write up in TravelAdvisor, although the Victoria seems to come out well.
Any clues would be great.

Thanks to every one who replied.Just checked out a couple the websites.Seems to be quite a range of cheap accommodation.
Not sure where to stay as I've not been to Malta before.I enjoy walking so would like close access to the countryside. Also being a single bloke would like a bit of nightlife, not too full on though! Anyone have any suggestions?
Rest assured I will be giving the Park Hotel a wide berth !

Counting Pennies - Im not sure(but would think they are child friendly) as when we have stayed there its been out of season and very quiet (mainly older couples).
I would email them and ask about high chairs and cots but i cant see them not supplying these as they advertise baby sitting services on their website.
