Can I change the date of my notice?

Options
Hi

I have taken voluntary redundancy from work after declining an alternative role.

Having been on garden leave I was told that my notice period would begin 7th December. I was then called into an investigation at work on 30th November and told that it may impact on my notice period. The same day (after the investigation) I was given the all clear.

I received a letter on 7th December saying notice period would be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances (although not everyone had this letter).

Now I have been told that I will be served notice on 20th Jan! Other colleagues had their notice on 7th December. I don't want to wait until then as I have plans in the pipeline. I don't see why my notice period should be later than everyone else's.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

No. Voluntary or compulsory makes no difference. The employer can serve notice when they wish. And almosy always, withdraw it as they wish too.

Don't let them know you have an alternative job in the pipeline, or it might get delayed again!

  • They're paying me to sit at home and have just extended it by another month. Surely they would be happy for me to just go?

    Whats the redundancy package?

They may be happy for you to resign and not have to pay out anything.
  • Yeah possibly so. Keep me hanging on so I resign and then don't pay me the severance deal. Well it's a self emp position I'm taking on afterwards so it's not as if I'm keeping anyone waiting!

Wait it out while they keep paying

    Get prepared for self employment

Check the contract for restrictions on taking on other work.
