Comparison sites say different results for same supplier
Options
Perhaps I'm being thick, but I've just put my details into Uswitch, Energy Helpline and Money Supermarket.
Slightly bamboozled but the possible options, I noticed they all had Sainsburys as a supplier; with the same plan. What I then noticed was the differing 'savings' and feel slightly cheated by this.
Ignoring that I could save £x, I looked at the annual costs.
My gas usage is 9800kw & elec 5300 PA
I have put this exact figure into all three, but I got the following results for my expected costs for a year
Energy Helpline - £1121
Money Supermarket - £1163.24
USwitch - £1163.19
Now there is only 5p in the last two, but £42 different from Energy helpline. So that makes me wonder if I am paying more if I take the deal from either of those to give them some sort of commission?
Thanks in advance

The Switch sites do live off commisions paid when a consumer changes supplier via their site, but it comes out of the pocket of the supplier and does not affect the quoted prices
Have a look at "switchwithwhich", once you have got through to the Suppliers/Prices page, there is a 'Compare tariffs' icon each suppliers section and when you hit this you get all the fine detail of that suppliers tariff directly alongside the fine detail of your present suppliers tariff0 -
What tariff are you on now, if it is a fixed tariff energyhelpline work out the results differently, they include the tariff you will be switched to when your fixed rate ends in their calculations.0
-
Each resultant tariff detail should give you the exact breakdown of standing charge and unit cost.
That would be the best way to compare.I am a moneysaver0 -
Perhaps certain comparison sites have slightly better deals with certain companies due to the level of traffic and business that they send them.
Given the growing number of comparison sites saturating the market, I can't see them all lasting in the same numbers if they all output exactly the same results. If every result was the same then why bother trying every comparison site, just use one and every result should be the same!."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0 -
Comp sites don't have 'deals' with suppliers that individually modify the tariff rates. The rates are the same ones you get if you go direct.
What commission they negotiate has no bearing on the tariff prices they display. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Please advise your supply region or first part of your postcode.
We could then investigate if the output you have obtained is correct, and if so, why there is an apparent variation.
All sites should give the same cost as there is only one correct answer.
A minor difference of 5p is probably due to rounding errors, but a difference of £42 is not correct.
My initial suspicion is that, as Moneysupermarket & Uswitch give essentially the same result, then there is probably an error with the EHL output, but if you give the information requested, this can be further looked into (and possibly corrected if needs be)0
