Car Insurance

That time of year again.

Just wondering if it is worth going with a company like direct line that covers you if hit by an uninsured driver?

Also are direct line a decent company?

  • They are UK based for their claims service - that is a real positive.

I wouldn't care if Aviva was half the price of DL - I would still pay more for this feature as the only time you should really have an issue with your insurance company is when it comes to handling a claim.

My experience with them was good when I had a non fault claim - that was until I found out that I did not get a courtesy car. You need to add this to the policy etc but they worded it as a hire car or something - which in my experience is different to a courtesy car offered by the repairing garage.

Overall, I wouldnt let that put anyone off, it's just part of the course these days with the way they try and innovate products - rather than keep it simple, we will quote low and then get add ons.

I think that Admiral were a great company to deal with from speaking to them from a professional point of view when I worked for an insurance company.

I was with DL for years. But they hiked the price so i went elsewhere.

Last year the quote from them was over double my renewal.

    Thanks guys.

With Sainsburys just now will haggle there renewal down.

DL is dearer than Sainsburys but i dont think they offer the uninsured driver cover, is this worth the extra?

Also sainsburys lets me drive other vehicles does anyone know the resrtictions on this with DL?

If hit by an uninsured driver, irrespective of who your insurer is (or your level of cover) you can claim via the MIB uninsured driver scheme.

    No.

When you claim from the MIB scheme, then any NCD you have earned is not touched.
