Best time to buy car

If it's a used car they may trade it on in the New Year as they don't like cars hanging round forever (it doesn't look good) and like I said in an earlier post, showrooms are like the 'Marie Celeste' over the Christmas Holidays, so call in after Boxing Day when they re-open and bargain hard.

I still think there is no "best time". Its dangerous to think this, because when you walk into a dealership on that assumption, your already in that "im getting a great deal" frame of mind, so its much easier for the salesmen to take you for every penny they can......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I have my eye on a new car. I say new but it's 2 year old from a well known chain of car sales garages.
As it's not a new car, there isn't the pressure for the dealer to hit any monthly/quarterly targets.
As has already been mentioned, between Christmas and New Year's day would be the only time that they might give a bit more, because the showroom will be dead.
However, as you don't have your finance already in place you will probably miss this window, unless you take the dealer finance.0 -
Thank you all for your time to reply, certainly given me some food for thought. Decided to go in at the end of the week and try my luck.0

I agree, some time between Christmas and New Year, cars are often the last thing on people's minds at this time of year, and not much is selling - so dealers are more likely to offer a discount.0

how much difference will there be in price, realistically on a 5 grand car. they're haveprobably £600 margin in it. they will probably knock off £50 to £100 from the price more than they would for the rest of the year. They expect to knock the price a little. Not a lot to be honest, buy when you feel is right to get a new vehicle. Its better to look around and pay a few hundred quid more to get a car in the right colour and trim you want.
Nothing is worse than buying a great car in a poor colour. I have one, i hate looking at it sometimes but like driving it.0
