Innacurate Meter?

Ten days ago we had our meter read by Eon and a couple of days later our bill arrived. It showed that we are using double the ammount of day time units than last year.

However nothing has changed except that we replaced our AEG washing machine for the equivalent model in January this one claimed to have a better energy rating than the last one. So on the face of it there should in theory be a lower cost of running it and our number of units used should have dropped.

I rang Eon and gave them our meter reading and it seemed close to their reading. I was advised to take meter readings for 3 days then ring the consumption team.

I rang them today and gave the readings which they say support their billed units. As nothing has changed I said that they should check our meter as it could be wrong. They told me that they can do that but there is a charge of £93 which may be refunded if they find that the meter is faulty surely this can't be right! anyone?

Are you tied to them? If not trying telling them you are unhappy & switching supplier. Whether they wish to reconsider their position to keep your business or not is upto them.

That said I should point out that if the meter is faulty they should definitely refund any charge but most if not all suppliers would charge you if they found the meter correct

Meter tests are not done free due to their costs, one way to tell take a read every day at the same time. Your weekend units will be higher, if not much difference each day dont bother its correct
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Why wouldn't there be a charge? If you are confident the meter is running fast get the check done - you will get the money back.

.... double the amount of Day time units since last year .... ?

What has happened to the Night time reading - If this has gone down it's likely that Eon have swapped the two readings over - I'm afraid that this is a common occurance so check your meters during the day and at night to see which reading is which
