Pitney Bowes Hell

They cold called me last July and offered me a free trial of one of their franking machines. £20 free postage and 1 free top up.

I had to sign a contract that was subject to the CCA 1978

On this contract it only said free £20 top up but I was assured I would get the free top up fee also.

The following month an invoice arrives and I am charged both the fee and top up.

I email them several times with no response. Then I receive invoices with random adjustment amounts. I call and email. I am asked by email to scan the docs to them as they are unable to see them. I do so and no reply.

By January I am so fed up and refuse to pay my invoice. Instead I email them and explain my reasons.

By April I have had enough and claim a fundamental breach of contract and void contract.

A few days later March invoice drops on the mat with a credit for the £20. They say becaise the top up is in on an email and not on the contract they have not voided the contract and will not be refunding this money. They also would not explain the charges.

Each month they have refused to pick up the machine and continued to charge me until finally they set their solicitors onto me.

I explained that I cancelled the contract after months of non-performance but they said that because they finally confirmed, no breach had taken place.

Do I have a leg to stand on??

Being a business to business contract you need to read the contract. But they would have still allowed franked labels to be printed, just the balance incorrect so arguing non performance may be difficult. They may have breached the contract in another aspect, but this has been remedied.

I'm not sure you have a strong case.

As an aside, I've used them in the past and you have to watch out for the automatic update charges, it can be done manually. I got caught out by this and they waivered it

Not helping you now, but for anyone else thinking of getting a franking machine, check out a business account with Royal Mail first, as it's free and you get better discounts if your usage qualifies.

Pitney Bowes based in Harlow Essex are the worst company I have ever dealt with, they are rude and unhelpful, with communication within the company being a total disaster, its like being stuck on a round-a-bout with them.

Plus one of there Field sales managers was the most obnoxious arrogant cretin I have ever met in my life, short guy going bald thinks he is the beez kneez!.

So glad we dumped them and went to Neopost.
  • Hi everyone of you Pitney Bowes customers - this copmany are a NIGHTMARE!However getting out of a contract is not going to be easy as they are as slippery as eels.
I have just received notification of the new postage rates that they will kindly administer on my behalf for £59.95 + vat !!!!!
Note also the letter came today and I have until Sunday to opt out, giving me a 3 day window.
Very dodgy - does anyone know a way round these pricing scams from Pitney Bowes.
    Yours kindly.

    Just curious...

What on earth has this thread got to do with Consumer Rights?
