Yeah!!! at last DH has his overtime back and now has soooo much work,he has to do 13-14 hours a day (7 days) :D I have just worked out his take home pay for the next few weeks and it is going to rise from £420/week to £1004/week :j for at least 5 weeks then go to about £600/week.
Problem now is,what do I do with all this money? do I up the Payplan payment, then reduce it again when his money drops? or do I save a lump sum and give that to Payplan? or do I choose something totally reckless, like save half and go camping for a week or 2  :D
This feeling of 'flushness' hasn't happened for so long,I now don't know what to do :o

    You still need a life.

So, I would suggest that you go camping for a week and the rest can be saved up. Perhaps you will have enough to offer F&F's to some debts and get rid of them permenantly????

Camping doesn't cost that much, does it?? Your food is already covered by your weekly food budget anyway and if you chose a site near to home, then petrol costs will be down.

    Oh that sounds sooo nice!

How about saving it (or some) in an ISA or savings for a bit util you might be able to make a F&F payment to one of your debtors?

Or are there any small bills you can pay off?

How exciting! Enjoy the feeling! :T

  • Hi! Can't really help you with any payplan advice but just wanted to say hurrah that you are feeling more affluent but also hope that your OH does't overwork himself - that is alot of hours! Make sure he gets enough rest too!Good luck with Payplan!

I would suggest the following. Do you have an emergency fund? Ie for if the boiler in the house dies, or you washing machine etc? If not then I would set up a new account (via https://www.quidco.com to get some cash back perhaps), and pay some of the extra money into that say half?

Then I would have a look for a really cheap camping deal. I am sure that one of the papers is doing a free pitch deal or something. Or else look out for the sun/mirror £10.50 holidays?

Anything after this I would save to the end of the 6 weeks and offer it as a lump sum to Payplan. They can then split it pro rata and also make sure that your creditors know that this is a one off extra payment, and is not guaranteed to be repeated.

Alternatively. If you saved up ALL of this extra, would you be able to offer any of your creditors a full and final settlement of the debt? This is often only about 50% of the current total. The plus of this is that one of your creditors will be gone (so will improve your credit file), plus the remaining money that you give to payplan will go up pro rata, because you have one less debt.

Probably best to give payplan a call and ask them about it hypothetically and see what they say

Would this mean that your length of your DMP would go down from 58 years!!

    Great news !!! :T

I agree you should use some of it to go camping - everybody needs a break and a little bit of fun.

I would then save up some and either make a large payment to Payplan or get some F&F's so you can see that DFD drop :)

Great news for you and I hope the overtime continues ((hugs))

Thanks chev,we do have a very small emergency fund of around £150,but all the major house appliances are still under guarantee (thanks to the fire) when they were replaced, they all came with 5 year warranty, the boiler is guaranteed for another 3 years :j
I was thinking of phoning Payplan today,to see what they suggest and YES I hope to get that 58 years down a bit :D even a couple of years is a start ;)

That's what I secretly wanted to hear ;) it's amazing how relaxing camping is,so I know it will do us some good,we wouldn't go until the end of the summer, but I would like to have something to look forward to.
I hope the overtime continues, according to DH's boss, the order books are overflowing for the next 4 years with ongoing contracts,so fingers crossed, although he knows he can't sustain 14 hour days,7 days a week for a long time,I'm sure a few weeks won't hurt ;) or am I a slave driver?

  • You're not a slave driver if he is happy to do the work! Seriously, my husband would live at his work if I didn't drag him away by the hair! As long as you make sure he is not killing himself then I'm sure it can't hurt!
As others have suggested, have yourself a well earned break!

  • i agree with art, as long as hubby is happy... i think a camping trip is in order, you can get pitches now for as little as £30/40 a week :) just dont go getting any more 'essential' camping equipment ;) then prehaps give payplan a lump sum  but definately go away, even if its only 4 nights, you have been working so hard lately you need a break... go and have some chill time :D
