Going over 16hrs on JSA, what will happen?

I recently started a job of 9.5 hours a week and declared it when I went to sign on. This week because it is Christmas I have been given more hours. This week I will be doing 26 hours and then will go back to my contracted 9.5 hours. Now when I tell the job center will I have to completely sign off for the one week and then sign back on. Also will it be a case of having to re apply for housing benefit.??

You need to sign off then sign back on again once your hours reduce under 16. It will also stop your housing benefit but you can claim housing benefit based on your income for that week.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Personally, I would not go beyond the 16 hours if you have to sign off. It will cause so much havoc and take so long to get the various benefits sorted out that you will struggle with the mess.

I know what you mean but it's a new job and my logic was to accept any and all hours with the wishful thinking of getting more hours on a permanent basis. At least I know what to expect now. Many thanks for the advice.
