Tesco Mobile - Useless

Hi
Just need to post this to vent off some steam
okay here's the story
I go on holiday this Saturday - I wanted a phone I could use with a mobile network in Portugal so I could send/receive e-mails, use facebook etc to keep in touch over the festive period.
I had a few clubcard vouchers which I exchanged for mobile double the value vouchers.
(10th November 2012)
I went to the tesco store to buy a phone, they never had much in the way of sim-free that would be any use to me. I asked if I got a tesco one could I get it unlocked. Yes I was told it takes 28 days though. That was fine I paid for it etc.
(13 November 2012)
I called tesco to get the phone unlocked, eventually got through to the correct department. I was then told I had to top the phone up with £20 credit to get it unlocked - they couldn't accept a debit card over the phone for payment
Topped up the phone online with £20, went through the hassle of getting through to the unlatching (unlock to every one else) team. They put it through and assured me it would be done in 28 days but usually less.
(12 December 2012)
No Code! :mad::mad::mad::mad:
I called them back up - the form? never went through to Nokia to get it unlocked. He said he'd put it through and mark it for priority and that its usually only takes a couple of days!
(20 December 2012)
Called for an update - it's gone through but will probably take 28 days from 12 December
The result - I've spent £80 cash + clubcard vouchers for a phone and unlaching code. I'm now left with a phone that's unlikely to be of any use to me on holiday! - The whole reason for buying it in the first place
I already have a PAYG iPhone which can't be unlocked within 1yr so the phone is of no use to me at all I have a paperweight that has cost me a small fortune and am unable to communicate with the family cheaply on holiday. I will now be forced to go and buy another phone (cheaply - i'm already £8- down!) and just try and call people when away which will cost more money!!!!!!
I can't explain how angry I am at Tesco mobile for the lack of service I have received and the fact i'm now left with a phone that's of absolutely no use to me!
Sorry to rant - just had to get it off my chest
I will be leaving tesco mobile as soon as possible (need to wait another 3 months to get my iPhone unlocked from them). I would never ever recommend them to friends or family based on the customer care that i have/haven't received.

Go to one of the many shops who offer phone unlocking. Depending on which phone they can usually do it while you wait for a £10er.
With 20:20 hindsight you could have gone there and bought a secondhand unlocked payg phone or bought a payg phone in Portugal"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Ride hard or stay home :iloveyou:0 -
None of the local ones can unlock it there and then - will be 5 days quickest
It's a Nokia Lumia 610 so I guess they are harder to unlock
The reason I went to Tesco was to use my clubcard vouchers to save as much for my holiday - guess its false economy - its now costing me much more :-(0 -
Just an update,
At the beginning of January I was informed that there was no unlock code and that I would be required to send my phone back to tesco to have it unlocked. I phoned today for an update as it should have been back to me by now!
There are now problems with the snow? It will probably be another 5 working days!!!!!
I just can't believe that a company of this size can have such a badly organised system and a customer service department that couldn't give a damn!
I will certainly recommend all my friends and family don't touch tesco mobile with a barge pole!0
