UPVA front door broken. Lock broke - got someone out to try and fix it, he said it would need to be replaced as internal bits on door were also broken. Quoted over £1000 as its door, connected to side window and a small UPVC door (gas/electric meter). He screwed door closed as it was unsafe.
Contacted insurance (sheilas wheels) who sent contractor out, siad claim was agreed, measured door, we choose door and glass and installation date and took £200 excess.
Then next day contact from contractors stating insurance were now refusing to pay as damage would be classed as intentional damage, they would allow us to claim for door lock but only up to £170 (we've already paid £200 excess) and he stated we could class it as accidental damage.
Apparently the contractor are to blame and shouldnt have taken money etc.
The contractors have apologised but stated the insurance company had agreed it. They state they will refund money and their contractor will get wrong.
We obviously still have a broken front door.
Insurance company were so unhelpful and stated we should have just left the door open and chanced being broken into. He said we'd have had more chance of claiming for a burglary.
Can anyone give any advice/experience?
I've NEVER tried to claim on house insurance before.

Turned the lock and it broke.
The guy who came out said the previous owners must have change the locks and have fitted it incorrectly - it hasnt been screwed in, they've hammered it in, causing damage to the mechanism and the door itself.Fantastic Expectations Amazing Revelations0
